Deja Vu? Or something else?

I feel like I’ve been here before….I keep repeating the same drama, different details….I feel connected to this person in ways I can’t explain….I don’t know how I know how to do this, I just do….My child has been coming up with information and stories that he has no way of knowing about ….

What if I don’t believe in past lives?

There is no general agreement on whether we have lived before yet many people believe we have. I find that identifying with the story of another life experience can be deeply healing and liberating and it doesn’t really matter if the individual thinks it’s a true story or the story of their personal soul. Just as you can learn and grow from the stories you read or see in the movies, these stories can help you to get unstuck from persistent patterns that cause distress in your life.

Sometimes during hypnosis, when I ask a client to go to an experience that is at the root of a present issue, the person spontaneously starts imagining a story that has not happened in the current life. Other times, we set out intentionally to explore a past life connection to a troubling current pattern. Either way, we use hypnosis. It is a very intuitive process and I rely on spiritual guidance.

Past lives of the rich and famous?

If we do live multiple lifetimes, surely people like Cleopatra, Henry VIII and even Elvis have gone on to live again. However, in my work with clients over the years, nobody has ever regressed to a famous lifetime. Instead, they return to ordinary lives with some trauma that was not resolved. The purpose of the regression is to heal the trauma so the soul can move completely on and experience freedom in the current life.

What’s on the past life menu?

In some regressions, a behavior pattern shows up, and the cost of that behavior becomes evident. Inevitably, this is a pattern that the client is continuing in the present but has been unable to shake, partly because the person can’t see where they’re headed if they keep it up and partly because they’re being propelled by something they don’t understand (a past life motivation). The outcome of this experience is usually a deep clarity and firm resolve and people make big shifts.

In other regressions, the person relives a traumatic event. The benefits of reliving it are the ability to express and release trapped emotion and to imagine comfort, resolve and healing that were unavailable at the time. This leads to greater peace in the present as well as the end of whatever the persistent malady or problem may have been.

Here are just a few examples of client healings from past life regressions.

• A woman, who struggled both to be close to the Lord of her beliefs and to share her gifts with the world, relived an experience where she watched her mother prophesy in tongues and subsequently be burned to death by the priests. As a result, my client understood her mistrust of church leaders as well as the Lord and her reluctance to share her own talents. Because we could add healing, she was set free to be close to the Lord and able to express her gifts.
• A child who was terrified of fire remembered a falling chandelier and the fire that killed her. After that she stopped focusing on fire.
• A man with an agitated personality and an obsessive fascination for the Vietnam War, relived his life as a Vietnamese peasant, hiding in the rice paddies from the soldiers. Afterwards he was much calmer.
• A woman with a tendency to give away her power and follow others recalled a life as a wealthy young lord who followed his assistant’s encouragement to idle away in an opium den. Ultimately the young man’s life faded into smoke and the assistant took all his power. After this regression, my client realized she was doing the same thing and immediately stopped following the lead of the reincarnated assistant.
