Effective January 2011, in addition to my primary business, I will also be serving as the minister for Unity Community of the Central Oregon for one year while the founding minister takes a sabbatical. Unity offers a spiritual approach, rather than a dogmatic or political one. Founded as practical Christianity, we explore the teachings of Jesus without the barnacles of sin and guilt. We also draw on other spiritual traditions and sources. We believer that all traditions are good and lead to the same God, called by many names. We believe we are all connected. Unity teaches the power of prayer, the power of the mind, law of attraction and the importance of walking your talk. We see the world as a mirror for our own consciousness and that we can affect the world around us for the better by enlightening our minds and opening our hearts.

If you resonate with authors and teachers like Rumi, Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, Abraham-Hicks, Eckart Tolle, Mary Morrissey, Wayne Dyer and Jean Houston, you will feel comfortable at Unity. Founded in the late nineteenth century, Unity is part of the New Thought movement. This movement came at a time of intellectual renaissance in the United States with well known thought leaders like Emerson and Thoreau. Christian Science and Science of Mind are two “cousins” of Unity that emerged in the same time frame.

During the Sundays of January the topic will be “Swords of Light: Cut through darkness and move into your potential by reclaiming unpopular, old fashioned virtues. SWORD is an acronym for Silence, Waiting Patiently, Obedience, Restraint and Discipline. These are virtues that often raise our hackles, but if we re-examine them in a spiritual light, we can find power that gives us clarity and momentum to create the lives we want.
